The National Development Party yesterday held a meeting to form a main committee to organise programs and activities in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei 's upcoming 60 th birthday anniversary.
The first meeting was held at NDP's HQ at Limbaruh Hijau Jerudong and was chaired by Awang Haji Aminorashid Haji Ghazali, the Secretary General of NDP.
A number of events have been planned by NDP for the celebration, each of which has been divided into categories.
Among them were religious activities, Youth Camp, Agricultural Expo, seminar, the distribution of rice, tug of war competition.
Each category will be handled by different sub committees. Religious Affairs category, for example, will have events such as Doa Kesyukuran (thanksgiving prayers) and Dzikir competition. Pg Haji Badaruddin the Head of Religious Affairs of NDP has been appointed to head this committee.
The main committee also appointed Major (Rtd) Hj Daud Haji Jamil as the Head of a Steering Committee to organise a large scale Youth Camp. He will be assisted by Hajjah Saemah Zulkefli, the Head of Women Assembly and Awang Haji Shafiee, the Head of Youths Assembly.
Another big event in the cards is Agricultural Expo. Hj Mat Zain Saleh had been appointed to head a committee to organise this event.
Malai Hassan Othman meanwhile was given the task to organise a seminar in conjunction with the royal 60 th birthday celebration while Hajjah Raiyah Md Ali was tasked with organising cultural shows.
NDP also planned to build a beautiful arch to commemorate the golden royal birthday anniversary and Pg Hamzah Pg Saleh was appointed to head a special committee to design and build this arch
A number of issues had also been raised and resolved during the meeting. This includes the issue of budget as well as the issue of responsibilities for each committee.
Each sub committee may elect members from other NDP bureaus to assist in their undertakings in making the event for His Majesty's Celebration a success.
Each subcommittee were also asked to lend a helping hand to one another, and to be united in any of the undertakings of the Party. This is in order to create a harmonious environment and a united front especially in strengthening the bonds of National Development Party members.
The next scheduled meeting for the His Majesty's Birthday Celebration working committed will be held on the 27 th May on the update of progress and a progress report.
