Reviving the strong spirit of ‘communitiness’

SERIA 13 JAN 2007: UNITY, MUTUAL TRUST, RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING are important ingredients in the making of a great community pointed out NDP Deputy President at a get-together session with a group of newly elected executive members of NDP’s sub branches at Seria National Housing Scheme area last Wednesday.

“Our objective in forming NDP and in providing this platform to the people is not simply to get people involved in political activities per se. Our objective is much wider than that. Our dream is to get

people together on this platform where we can revive our spirit of ‘communitiness’ and work together in unity in assisting His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam and his Government to build the nation”, said sdra Mahmud Morshidi Othman.

“It is on this realization that we formed NDP and we believed that we can be successful in strengthening this spirit of communitiness especially among the youths”, added the Deputy President.

He also took the opportunity to brief the executive members on the itinerary of the upcoming second General Assembly. It is scheduled to be held in the capital from 18th to 20th May this year.

“The second general assembly would see the gathering of nominated representatives from all NDP District Liaison Offices and sub branches in the country to debate on our concerns and on issues relevant to the social, political, cultural and economic development of the country at grassroots level as well as on national level. All the NDP District Liaison Offices and sub branches are expected to nominate 6 representatives to attend the 3-day general assembly and to nominate their respective speaker to table whatever issues they deemed relevant and worth highlighting at the general assembly”.

“In other words, the general assembly would be a great opportunity for people to voice their concerns and to put forward their ideas for the good of the nation”, said sdra Morshidi.

“This is, we believed, the proper channel that we should make use the best we could in channeling our collective contributions and services to the nation. We are sure whatever issues of concerns we will highlight at the general assembly would be useful to the government in its efforts to gather information and feed back from the people as the end users of its nation building policies and programs”.

“If for example, the information and feed back gathered from coffee shop conversations, letter to editors in local media and the internet are considered useful then there is no reason why information and feed back we channel through the general assembly cannot be considered as useful too, added sdra Morshidi.

He said it is therefore important for NDP to ensure the general assembly will be conducted professionally and successfully so that the voices of concerns and the ideas we channel from it will be of values greater than those pick up from coffee shops.
