Mosques call on Muslims to help quake victims

 
 

Mosques in Brunei Darussalam Friday called on all Muslims in the country to assist in humanitarian aid to ease the burden faced by earthquake victims in Yogyakarta Indonesia.

6000 lives lost and over 200,000 made homeless after the quake hit Bantul Yogyakarta early on 25th May.

The Friday summons in Mosques nation wide urged all Muslims to donate to Indonesia’s quake victims who are now in dire need for food, clothing and shelters.

The imams said a working committee has been set up by the Government of His Majesty to aid the quake victims. Donation boxes for the Yogyakarta quake victims can be found in all mosques in the country. Collection centers for food and clothing will also be set up soon.

They said as Muslims it is our obligations to help fellow Muslims who are in difficulty such as those quake victims in Indonesia. We should donate with a sincere heart so that Brunei will be protected from such disaster, they added.

The National Development Party had also set up its own Yogyakarta quake victim’s working committee as soon as the news of the quake was reported. The headquarters of NDP will act as a collection point for donation.

The working committee is headed by Major (B) Haji Md Daud bin Jamil, Head of Security and Emergency Bureau. An order was also issued to NDP Liaison Officers inall four districts to collect donations from NDP members to help the Yogyakarta quake victims.
