About 50 members of the National Development Party (NDP) attended a two-day seminar at its headquarters, which commenced yesterday, in an attempt to realise the importance of life-long learning in enhancing their religious knowledge.

Organised by the NDP Islamic Religious Affairs Bureau and facilitated by Aftaneka Infokonsult & Training, the seminar featured some four working papers as well as a keynote address delivered by the bureau's head, Hj Mohd Yunos bin Hj Suhaili.

Two guest lecturers from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Ustaz Dr Hamzah Jaafar, a former lecturer of Islamic Propagation and Human Development Department, Islamic Studies Academy, Universiti Malaya and Ustaz Hj Idris Hj Ahmad, a former lecturer of Universiti Institut Teknologi Mara (UITM) - were at the seminar, which was also participated by NDP President Yasin Affandy and members of NDP Executive Committee.

Yesterday, Ustaz Hj Idris talked on a balance of two important elements towards an effective organisation namely the leader and followers. He said both leader and followers must respect and understand each other.

"Followers must give their unequivocal support to their leader and must realise that their head is the driver and will only succeed with the support of his followers," he said.

Additionally, he said, both the leader and followers must understand their tasks. He described the traits that a leader should posses and added that a leader must occasionally adhere to the need of their followers and be able to drive them to achieve their missions and objectives.

"He must also ensure that an objective must not be individualistic in nature but of collective views," he said.

The seminar continues today with a workshop and a presentation of two working papers. The participants and their lecturers attended a luncheon hosted by Restoran Kertini in Menglait yesterday.
