OCCUPIED JERUSALEM Twenty-two days of Israeli air, land and sea attacks, its deadliest offensive ever on the besieged coastal enclave, have claimed innocent lives and left a trail of destruction. Herewith some figures from the offensive available by Sunday, January 18, though the death toll is expected to jump with more access to bombed areas.
Palestinian Causalities
So far at least 1,205 people have been killed since December 27, including:
-- 410 children (under 16)
-- 108 women
-- 113 elderly men
-- 14 medics
-- 4 journalists
-- 5,300 wounded
Israeli Causalities
Israel has admitted to the killing of 13 people in Palestinian combat and rocket attacks, including:
-- 10 soldiers (nine in combat, one in rocket attack)
-- three civilians in rocket attacks
-- dozens wounded
Gaza Targets
More than 2,500 targets have been bombed by Israeli air force, navy and tanks, including:
-- four UN-run schools
-- a compound of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees
-- two media buildings
-- 16 medical centers
-- 16 ambulances
-- 20,000 residential buildings
-- 1,500 commercial facilities, including factories, shops, metal workshops
-- 51 government buildings, including ministries and police
-- 18 schools and other education buildings
-- 20 mosques
-- 50 kilometers of roads
Rebuilding Gaza
The Palestinian statistics bureau estimates rebuilding the damage inflicted by Israel as follows:
-- 475.9 million dollars of damage to infrastructure
-- 500 million dollars in estimated clean-up costs
