With hope to awaken their slumbering nationalistic and patriotic spirits, Yasin Affandy brought them down his memory lane some 50 years ago when at an early age of 20 he changed course from a life of mere wage earner to a life of a political activist.
He said the young people of his generation in the region went through many depressing experiences during the World War II period and after the traumatic experience under the Japanese occupation, were in the mood for independence, to regain their nation’s sovereignty from their colonial masters and were determined to pave the way to the future without interferences from alien powers.
The mood spread to Brunei and we too, said Yasin Affandy caught the ‘fever’.
It was a fine setting to sow the seeds of nationalism and patriotism.
The hardship they went through awakened their young fighting spirits for the love of the nation and the ruler and spurred them to the frontline to help restore the dignity and sovereignty of the nation, the people and the monarchy.
The new generation he said, now live in different environment and setting. The soil now is fertile to sow the seeds of complacency.
The peace and prosperity we now enjoy bring happiness to all of us but at the same time it has the potential to dampen our nationalistic and patriotic spirit and made us tend to forget about our duty and responsibility to the nation, the people and to the monarchy.
He urged youths to wake up to reality that the future of the nation is in their hands and the nation needs strong hands to lead it to greater stability and prosperity while ensuring the concept of Malay,Islamic Monarchy remain intact.
It is now yor struggle to ensure that Brunei will forever remain a soveringn peaceful and prosperous Malay, Isamic, Monarchical nation that deserves the clemency of Allah the Almighty. |
